The company only provides document organization and appointment coordination; it is not a bank and does not guarantee successful account opening. Actual document lists, fees, timelines, and eligibility are subject to the bank's current terms and audit notifications.
01 Verify bank licenses and service scopes first
The Financial Institutions Directory of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) allows searching for regulated financial institutions by institution, license, or permitted business, and provides a print/download portal for list views. Before opening an account, cross-verify using this directory and the bank's official contact information; do not rely solely on intermediary promotions or transfers from stranger calls.
- MAS full classification for deposit-taking institutions: Full Bank, Wholesale Bank, Merchant Bank, and Finance Company.
- Results in the directory may be counted by license; a single financial institution may hold multiple licenses, so the number of results does not equal the number of institutions.
- Specific account products, eligible applicants, and account opening paths for DBS, OCBC, and UOB are subject to the conditions displayed on their respective official websites on the date of application.
02 Individual account opening: Eligibility, address, tax residency, and processing methods
Individual applicants should first prepare valid identity documents, proof of residential address, and all tax residency information. Banks may request explanations or additional documents if address, name, visa, or identity information is inconsistent with the application form.
- DBS: Documents may be uploaded for online individual-account applications. Foreign applicants generally use a valid passport (Malaysian applicants may use an identity card) and, as applicable, must submit proof of employment, study or residence, plus proof of address issued within the past 3 months. Non-Singapore tax residents must submit corresponding proof for each declared tax-resident jurisdiction; DBS also states that applications may be made through the digibank process, although certain information may require subsequent verification.
- OCBC: Remote online individual current/savings account opening is for Singapore Citizens and PRs via Singpass/MyInfo; others should follow the latest branch or official application paths. CRS is for information collection and reporting; tax residency data may affect bank compliance processing.
- UOB: Individual account opening instructions for foreigners require in-branch signing and submission of original documents, including a passport valid for at least six months and a second ID, proof of residential address in Singapore, and applicable supporting documents such as Employment Pass, S Pass, or Dependant Pass. UOB TMRW is accessible after approval; UOB reserves the discretion to approve or reject applications.
- It is recommended to use utility bills, communication bills, bank/credit card statements, or employment, school, or government documents explicitly accepted by the bank from the last three months; do not substitute actual residential addresses with P.O. boxes, office, or school addresses unless explicitly accepted by the bank.
03 Corporate Opening: Entity, Director, Beneficiary & Business Documents
The key to corporate applications is proving entity existence, a complete chain of authorization, and clear actual control. Registration documents do not equal automatic approval; banks may request additional information case-by-case. Audits and account opening results are subject to the bank's latest review.
- DBS: Companies with foreign registration, foreign shareholding, non-local-resident shareholding, or that require relationship-manager support may first submit an account-opening expression of interest for assistance from a relationship manager. DBS corporate-account materials indicate that foreign nationals and permanent residents who are authorised signatories, directors or ultimate beneficial owners should provide passports and identity documents; authorised signatories must submit proof of address issued within the past 3 months. Companies meeting the bank's online eligibility criteria may apply online; in other cases, a relationship manager will assist.
- OCBC: Corporate applications require business account forms, minimum deposits, and certified ID/address proof for all authorized signers, directors, partners, officers, or beneficial owners. Address proof examples include ID, phone, or bank bills within three months of application. Private limited companies also need ACRA Business Profile, certified M&A, and a Board Resolution signed by two directors or one director and the secretary; designated signers usually must present IDs in person.
- UOB: Document checklist for private limited companies includes account opening forms, ACRA Business Profile, ID documents of relevant persons, proof of residential address for foreigners, FATCA self-certification or IRS withholding tax certificate, board resolution, certified copy of the Articles of Association, and CRS forms. Foreign-registered companies must also provide proof of incorporation or equivalent documents, constitutional documents, board resolutions, and identity details of authorized persons/signatories as per the checklist. If the company is registered in Singapore with foreign directors, UOB states a Singapore Singpass holder can initiate an online application; for branch applications, submit completed forms and required documents.
- Reusable business/entity proof packages should prioritize: Registry Extracts or Certificates of Incorporation, ACRA Business Profile, Articles of Association or organizational documents, Board/Account Opening Authorization Resolutions, ID proof for Directors/Signatories/Ultimate Beneficial Owners, proof of residential address within the last three months, and supplementary materials as required by the bank on a case-by-case basis to explain entity operations and use of funds.
04 Consistency of tax residency, controllers, and address
FATCA/CRS Self-Certification is part of the account opening information, not tax advice. Applicants should truthfully declare all tax residencies and Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN); if no TIN is available, select the applicable reason and provide an explanation per the form.
- OCBC corporate forms require tax residency and TIN; explanations are needed if addresses (registered, mailing, or business) differ from tax residency. Applicable Passive NFEs must provide controller details, residential addresses, and tax residencies.
- UOB's physical FATCA/CRS self-certification requires declaring the entity name, registration number, place of registration/organization, principal place of business, and registered address, along with all tax residencies and corresponding TINs. For Passive NFEs, the controlling persons section must be fully completed; if the residential address or other information is inconsistent with bank records or declared tax residency, the bank requires an explanation and may report or impose restrictions based on records until the information is supplemented.
- When the address of the individual or controller is inconsistent with the tax residency, it is advisable to prepare the passport, national ID card, or government-issued documents of that tax residency, along with a concise and consistent explanation. Consult a qualified tax advisor for complex tax residency status.
05 Pre-appointment Verification and Boundary Clarification
Before the appointment, unify the spelling of Chinese/English names, date of birth, passport number, residential address, company registration information, list of directors/signatories/beneficiaries, and tax residency declarations. All scans should be clear, complete, and within the validity period prescribed by the bank.
- Confirm whether the applicant is an individual, a Singapore-registered company, a foreign-registered company, or another organization, and select the official application path for the corresponding bank and account product.
- If an on-site visit is arranged, confirm in advance with the bank which individuals must appear in person, whether original documents must be carried, and whether certified copies are accepted; do not interpret online applications as exempting all identity verification.
- Any third-party service is not a bank credit grant or account opening commitment. Do not pay so-called deposits, expedited fees, or capital verification funds to non-official collection accounts; final account opening, document supplements, limits, and audit timing are independently determined by the bank and subject to the bank's latest review.
