Drafted by Rengangyongsheng (Hong Kong) Limited · Tang Shangyong (Drew) Business Manager Provides Professional Explanations

The company only provides document organization and appointment coordination; it is not a bank and does not guarantee successful account opening. Actual document lists, fees, timelines, and eligibility are subject to the bank's current terms and audit notifications.

01 Before Account Opening: Verify License and Service Scope First

Deposit-taking institutions in Hong Kong are divided into licensed banks, restricted licence banks, and deposit-taking companies. Only licensed banks may use the name "bank" without restriction and operate current and savings accounts. Before booking, check the institution name and license status in the HKMA online register, then refer to the latest account terms, eligibility, and fee descriptions on the bank's official website.

  • HKMA Official Bulk Register: Downloadable XLS "LIST OF LICENSED BANKS IN HONG KONG" used to filter licensed banks and view primary Hong Kong business addresses, phone numbers, official websites, and personal/corporate banking service links; the official snapshot saved this time is dated 2026-09-30.
  • HKMA Online "Register of AIs & LROs" is used for verification by institution name; the update time shown on the page is 2026-10-06.
  • The "Bank Entry" on this page is arranged by data display order and does not constitute a ranking of bank strength, account opening success rate, fees, limits, or service quality.

02 Hong Kong Company Account: Company Eligibility and Core Documents

HKMA states that banks collect company identification, registered and principal business addresses, beneficial owner details, account purpose and expected activity, and identity/authorization for representatives. Data sufficiency is determined by banks' risk assessments.

  • Corporate Documents: Prepare Certificate of Incorporation, Registrar Report, Certificate of Incumbency, Certificate of Good Standing, Business Registration details, Partnership Agreement or Articles of Association (provided based on entity type and bank requirements).
  • Address and Structure: State registered office address and principal place of business; provide information on ownership and control structure, directors, authorized signatories, major shareholders, and ultimate beneficial owners, and provide identity proof for relevant persons as requested.
  • Business proof: Prepare authentic and cross-verifiable business introductions, operating locations, main products or services, customers and suppliers, contracts/orders/invoices/logistics or website information, expected turnover and transaction patterns, expected incoming and outgoing payment purposes, and descriptions of source of funds and income. Typical documents publicly listed by Standard Chartered Hong Kong include company history, source of setup funds, business experience, business nature, main import/export countries, customers/suppliers, source of funds, and expected bank activity.
  • Tax and Authorization: Provide FATCA, AEOI/CRS, and other local, group, or offshore compliance information if required by the bank; persons opening accounts on behalf of a company must prepare identity proof and authorization documents.

03 Appointment, Remote Verification, and Interview

Online application does not equate to exemption from review or a guaranteed waiver of in-person interviews. Banks may arrange phone KYC, digital identity verification, electronic signatures, or interviews at branches/business centers after reviewing documents. When booking, confirm the directors, shareholders, ultimate beneficial owners, authorized signatories, and their original documents required to attend to avoid delays due to absence or inconsistent information.

  • HSBC Corporate Account: All customers can submit applications online; eligible applicants can complete document upload, identity verification, and OTP confirmation remotely, otherwise an appointment can be made at a Commercial Banking Centre to complete the application.
  • Hang Seng Business Account: Remote applications must complete document review, digital identity verification, electronic signature, and KYC call; if the bank requires a face-to-face visit to a business center, appointments are scheduled based on available slots at that time.
  • The BOCHK SME online process includes filling in the application, uploading documents, and online identity verification; even if remote account opening is initially selected, the bank may still require an in-person visit to complete the procedure based on actual circumstances.
  • BEA CorporatePlus allows online application and support document uploads first, followed by staff understanding company operations, arranging appointments, and visiting BEA to complete identity verification and signing.
  • After internal review of Standard Chartered Hong Kong personal mobile account opening, if supplementary information or documents are required, the bank may invite the applicant to a branch to open the account.

04 Review Time, Fees, and Transaction Limits

The timing of the review depends on the completeness of materials, entity and control structure, business and fund flows, the services applied for, remote verification results, and bank compliance reviews; online submission or appointments should not be understood as a commitment to open an account. Fees, minimum balances, transaction limits, or review times without a specified official source are all subject to the bank's latest review, account terms, and written disclosures at the time of application.

  • For process reference only, not a commitment: HSBC Corporate Accounts state a minimum of 3 working days when eligible and all required documents are submitted; Hang Seng lists a minimum of 3 or 5 working days for specific remote eligibility combinations, and approximately 2 to 3 weeks for other cases; Bank of China (Hong Kong) lists a minimum of 3 working days for eligible enterprises such as designated Hong Kong-registered companies with single-layer shareholding.
  • The aforementioned timelines are contingent upon bank eligibility screening, satisfactory documentation, identity verification, and completion of KYC, and may change due to requests for supplementary documents, interviews, or case-by-case reviews.
  • Read the target account's latest fee schedule, monthly fee waiver conditions, initial deposits, online banking permissions, and payment limits first; do not replace bank written terms with third-party verbal quotes or old promotional materials.

05 AML/CFT, KYC, and Continuous Information Updates

HKMA states that HK banks must conduct customer due diligence and ongoing monitoring for new and existing clients per the AMLO and AML/CFT guidelines. Information must be true, consistent, verifiable, and explainable; banks may ask follow-up questions at opening, periodically, or as needed.

  • Truthfully disclose the Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO), source of funds/wealth, business model, major counterparties, and expected transactions; explanations should be consistent with registration data, contracts, invoices, websites, bank statements, and tax information.
  • Do not forge, backdate, or selectively conceal documents; do not use personal accounts for corporate receipts, or use corporate accounts for transactions inconsistent with the declared business.
  • If there are material changes in directors, equity, address, business, tax residency status, or transaction patterns after account opening, they should be updated in a timely manner as required by the bank; retain reasonable transaction vouchers for subsequent due diligence.
  • If an application is not accepted, the HKMA states that banks should generally explain the reasons for rejection and have a review mechanism in place; applicants may request the bank to reconsider or contact the HKMA for inquiries or to provide feedback.

06 Official Account Opening Portals for Major Licensed Banks

The following are official account opening information portals for commonly used Hong Kong licensed banks. Remote eligibility, permitted entity types, number of relevant persons, shareholding levels, identification, and location requirements vary for each bank and are subject to the bank's page and case-specific notifications on the day of application submission.

  • HSBC: Corporate account page supports online submission; eligible customers can complete the process remotely.
  • Hang Seng: Corporate remote application applies to specific conditions for HK registration, single-layer structure, related party IDs, and turnover; account opening arrangements begin only after KYC completion.
  • Standard Chartered: Corporate account opening emphasizes the collection of CDD information such as company history, structure, business, source of funds, and expected banking activities.
  • BEA: Online application applies to Hong Kong sole proprietorships, partnerships, or limited companies meeting set conditions; subsequent visit to business center for identity verification and signing is required.
  • BOCHK: Remote SME account opening is subject to basic conditions such as Hong Kong registration, limits on the number of shareholders and related parties, and possession of a Hong Kong Identity Card.
  • OCBC (Hong Kong): The online corporate account opening page lists requirements including Hong Kong registration, maximum of two partners or directors, relevant persons holding Hong Kong Permanent Identity Cards, and no corporate shareholders.
  • Nanyang Commercial Bank: The official corporate account opening page lists document requirements by entity type, including Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, HK Incorporated Limited Company, Overseas Incorporated Limited Company, and other entities.
